Natural Occurrence of fumonisin B©û(FBI) was investigated in corn and rough rice grown in Korea by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). From the 91 corn and 156 rough rice samples, harvested in 1992, FBl was detected in 43 corn samples (47%) at the range of 51-6455 ng/g and in 8 rough rice samples (5.1%) at 51-99 ng/g. The average recovery of FBI from corn was 103% but those from rice were 90%, 74%, and 63% when 125,250, and 500 ppb of FBI were spiked, respectively. For the confirmation of FBI, trifluoroacetate (TFA) derivative of its pentolamine was analyzed by GC/MS.
